HIS Sign, LLC, a sign language interpreting agency based in Northern Virginia, is committed to advocating for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the communities in which they live by promoting equal access to businesses through our Deaf Friendly Certification Program.

There are no fees associated with becoming a
Deaf Friendly Certified Business!

Our certification program strives to:

hand_signEducate businesses on the proper etiquette for interacting with members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

hand_sign  Educate businesses on how to appropriately use a sign language interpreter.

hand_sign Prepare businesses to utilize the services of an interpreter in circumstances that will benefit both their business and their Deaf and Hard of Hearing customers.

hand_sign Facilitate a timely response from the business to any concerns from members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

 Our certification process involves:

hand_sign A free, one-hour training for management and employees in Deaf culture, working with interpreters, and the importance of clear communication to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

hand_sign A commitment by participating businesses to provide Video Remote Interpreting for initial customer interactions and on-site interpreters for more in-depth transactions where appropriate.

hand_sign  Signing the Deaf Friendly Business Agreement.

hand_sign  Annual renewal of the Certification.

When completing our certification program:

hand_sign  Your business will be certified as Deaf Friendly!

hand_sign Your business will be presented with a certificate to proudly display.

hand_sign Your business will receive Deaf Friendly window stickers to advertise your certification to your customers.

hand_sign Your business will be listed on our Deaf Friendly business web page with a link to your website.

hand_sign We will work with you on ways to promote your business through advertising, holding or sponsoring events tailored to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
